Adding Historical Data - Howz it work with Category Tracker? Google sheets

Need to import some Jan-May 2024 historical data (1 credit card and 1 checking acct). New user to Tiller, Gsheets, and excited that Category Tracker is working great on current data.

Getting historical data ready to import, but concerned on not destroying current data or causing issues. I believe I need to paste in the data but don’t need all the fields.

I’d like to see the data in the Category Tracker page though. I’m not clear which fields are needed to allow Category Tracker to sort the data properly? In fact, I wonder if Category Tracker will even sort added early 2024 data or if it only sorts on the newly downloaded fields?

Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

I’m a bit brain-fogged from radiation and chemo for neck cancer. So far, all clear but left me a good bit of lingering cognitive decline.
Sincerely, Kelly McClelland

Here’s the guide to the manual import with CSV Docs: Import CSV Line Items
and yes so long as you categorize the data it’ll show on the category tracker page.

The hidden helper section of Category Tracker reveals what sheets and columns it uses:

Modify the Category Tracker Start and End Date fields to control the time period of interest:

What a fast response! I am deeply greatful…
I’ll have to see if I can figure out how to see the “hidden helper section” it is still hidden from me! ;-o
Good to know it won’t scan until I make a change to dates in the Category Tracker Start and End Date fields. Thanks for pointing that out.
Blessings and appreciate the advice and well wishes!

Thank you for the quick help and input on this. I’ll read throught the CSV Docs article you linked to me. Looks excellent and helpful from a quick scan. I’m collecting these type files as I find them and make notes to help. I used Excel a bit years ago, but have been away from working much with spreadsheets for many years. They’ve come a very long way since my last deep dives. I let staff take care of them and used the results of their work. So getting back to hands on is a stretch at my age.
Blessings and thank you for your great help.
