### A Quick Tip: Personalize Your Spreadsheet by Renaming Accounts

Hey everyone!

Here’s a quick tip that I’ve found makes a huge difference in how clear my Tiller spreadsheet feels.

When Tiller first syncs your accounts, it pulls in the official bank name, which is often something like “e-FREE CHECKING (123-456).” While accurate, it’s not always easy to read at a glance and can feel a bit impersonal.

By giving your accounts custom names, you make your spreadsheet easier to scan and more connected to your actual goals. It’s a simple way to gain financial clarity.

**Here’s exactly how to do it:**

1. Go to the Tiller Console at [my.tiller.com](http://my.tiller.com).
2. Scroll down to find **Connected Accounts**.
3. Find the account you want to rename in the list.
4. Click the Edit button to the right of the account name.
5. Select **Rename Account** from the dropdown menu.
6. Type your new, preferred name in the box and click the blue **Rename** button.

That’s it! Just a heads-up, this change only applies to new transactions that flow into your spreadsheet. Existing transactions won’t be changed.

**Need some inspiration? Here are a few ideas to get you started:**

- **For Savings Goals**

- **For Credit Cards**

- **For Investments & Retirement**

What are some of the clever or useful account names you use?

Here’s the [corresponding help article](https://help.tiller.com/en/articles/828331-how-to-rename-an-account-connected-to-tiller) to rename the existing data to match.

> **Update account names for existing data**
>
> If you renamed an account after you’ve already created a sheet and filled the accounts data in, the sheet will not update with the new account name. You’ll need to manually correct the data.
>
> 1. Open the Transactions sheet
>
> 2. [Turn on the Filter](https://help.tiller.com/en/articles/657909-filtering-sorting-data-in-google-sheets) in the Transactions sheet
>
> 3. Filter the Transactions sheet to only show transactions for an account that has an updated name you want to correct. Keep in mind that some accounts may have the same name (e.g. CREDIT CARD) so you may also need to filter on the Account # column.
>
> 4. Use the [Fill Handle](https://help.tiller.com/google-sheets-basics/how-to-use-the-quick-fill-square) to quickly update existing account data with the new name.
>
> 5. Unhide the Balance History sheet (View Menu \> Hidden sheets)
>
> 6. Repeat steps 2-4 for Balance History entries
>
> 7. Update [Accounts sheet](https://help.tiller.com/en/articles/3250970-reviewing-balances-customizing-accounts) dropdown selections (if applicable)

Thanks Mark! I included it in the Twitter post but somehow missed it when repurposing here. Appreciate your eagle eye.
