Double Negative Entry in Investment Account Transactions, Why?

I have an investment account that I also use for checking. I deposited a check into this account for $159.62. It shows up as a negative. Then next to it is another $159.62, also a negative. The second one is because the deposit is automatically swept into a money market so this makes sense to me. But the first one, why negative?

Hi @boofuss60 how does that account appear on the Balances sheet? ; asset or liability?
