Everything just stopped working

My spreadsheet is not exactly small anymore (data back to 2021, pushing 9000 lines on Transactions tab, and several other customized sheets), and I do have a decent number of formula-intensive sheets, but it seems to me that what’s happening now is more than just a large, slow sheet.

I cannot get anything to work from either the main Tiller Money Sheets sidebar (always stuck with the maintenance error), OR the Community Solutions sidebar. None of my scripts will work (they all time-out, even a VERY simple one I made to test it). New transactions seem to be coming in properly, and AutoCat is working as it should, but since I cannot split anything, or make any updates to my Savings Budget sheet, I’m pretty much stuck in the water.

There are several suggestions for using IMPORTRANGE to allow me to move all of my analysis sheets to another spreadsheet. However, when I created a new blank sheet, and tried that formula, it will ONLY work if I limit the range to about 20 rows. Anything else and I get an “internal error” for the formula.

I’m almost a year into using Tiller, and I’ve spent LOTS of time customizing and getting everything to where it was really starting to feel like exactly what I needed, but then, very suddenly, nothing is working. All of my sheets allow for multiple years, and my customized version of the savings budget will not (easily?) allow for just removing, say, a year or two of transactions. I did experience SOME levels of this slowing down at various times earlier in the year, but I was able to do quite a bit of streamlining and disabling certain functions that caused the biggest slow-downs (ie, custom formatting and arrayformulas on the transactions tab). Now, however, nothing seems to help.

I have tried multiple browsers, clearing browser cache, and disabling all extensions with no success. This has been going on for a couple weeks now, so I’m really needing to either get it figured out, or find another way to track everything. Anything at all that I might try would be very appreciated. Thanks! I’ve spent all my time customizing my own sheets, and hardly any time posting here, so if I need to share anything or whatever, I may need some instructions, haha.

I wonder if you restore an older version (from a time when it was working properly) as a copy and link it up in the console if it will work properly. If it does work, start copy/pasting updates into it until it breaks to try and determine what’s causing the problem.

I don’t think the 9000 transactions is too many - I have about 18,000 in my current active sheet.

Take a look at all your tabs and look for excessive amounts of blank lines at the bottom of each one. The Transaction tab in particular - one time mine had close to 50,000 blank lines at the bottom. Not sure how it happened, but I deleted them and performance improved.

That maintenance error indicates that you may not have upgraded to our new watermark method that was rolled out earlier this year.

I’d recommend reaching out to our support team via the chat window in the lower right corner of the Console at https://my.tiller.com/

if you are referring to the Direct Fills thing, I am positive that I was upgraded to that. Also, this morning when I opened the Tiller Console, my ONLY option was to create a new spreadsheet. My spreadsheet was no longer linked. I can still open it, of course, but the console does not show that it is linked, and I still cannot do anything with the Tiller Money Feeds extension. After creating a new spreadsheet (since that was the only thing I could do), I still see no way to link back to my existing spreadsheet.

Can you verify that your browser is logged into the same account as your tiller account? I find that that will sometimes give a fit if you were logged into another google account. Once you verify that google is logged in, can you try to open the sheet and extension and relink? If that doesn’t work, try in a private browser? If none of that works, I would email support directly at support@tiller.com

No, direct fills is different than the watermark migration/maintenance error.

@mclay717 Mike, you might find the following “Improving Performance Example” post helpful.

Thanks Clint. I actually found this a while ago. When I referred to the “quite a bit of streamlining and disabling certain functions” that was mainly due to this specific post on Improving Performance.

At this point, I’m still dead in the water. My original spreadsheet has somehow been de-linked from my console, and the only option i have in the console is to create a new sheet. I’ve messaged the team and just waiting for a response. If a solution is found for me, I’ll see about relaying it here.

Mike, hopefully you have heard back from support and are getting their help with this issue. I know it must be frustrating to feel like all your hard work may be lost. It sounds like you have tried just about everything to resolve it.

Hey @mclay717 I just reached out to you via the support thread we already have going about this issue.

To find my reply, please log in to the Tiller Console at my.tiller.com and click the blue chat icon in the lower right, then choose the messages option to find our ongoing conversation.

It’s working again! It turns out that I DID have a sheet with several thousand blank rows at the bottom, which I deleted. Additionally, on that sheet (Budget Plan), I found a formula that was referencing an array of several open-ended columns (ie B6:B). I changed all the references in that one formula to cap off the columns to the end of the existing data (ie B6:B79), and now my spreadsheet is truckin again. If I can figure out how to best post my solution, I’ll do that in case others run into that same issue.
