Introducing Templates, via the Tiller Console

Incredible flexibility

The real power of Tiller is that the sky’s the limit. It’s not a one-size-fits-all app. It’s a spreadsheet, which means it’s extensible. Your money, your way.

Templates are a big part of the how. If you’ve opened the Templates section in Tiller Money Feeds, visited the Tiller Community, or installed Tiller Community Solutions, you know there are lots of templates out there to add on top of your Foundation Template. Category Tracker, Debt Payoff Planner, Net Worth, Savings Goals, and dozens more, ready to drop into your sheet and make it more you.

Some are built by our team, plenty more by the community of spreadsheet tinkerers who’ve been extending Tiller for years. Either way, they’re proof that Tiller grows with you instead of boxing you in.

Templates on the Console

Now it’s even easier to find them. If you’ve got a Direct Fills Google Sheet, Templates live right in the Tiller Console alongside your Linked Accounts and Transactions. Browse what’s available, apply updates if needed, see what’s Tiller-supported vs. community-supported, and add to your sheet in one click.

If you’re using Microsoft Excel, a Sidebar Fills Google Sheet, or a Direct Fills sheet with Advanced Security enabled, templates are still available from the Tiller Money Feeds sidebar, same as always.

When new data flows in do you need to delete and re-load templates?

Thanks!

Heather, thank you for this excellent development.

What does this mean? "
Templates Not Available
This feature is not yet supported with Advanced Security.

Welcome @BillPayer and @tandoor :waving_hand:

@BillPayer No, you do not need to delete and re-load templates after new data fills/flows into your spreadsheet.

@tandoor it means the Templates feature is not supported if you have Advanced Security turned on because the install mechanism we have so far requires the All Spreadsheets permission.

What’s the status of community templates? I built one that got published years ago. More recently I submitted one to the forums and was told the program is on hold. I have 2 that are polished and ready but haven’t put much effort into sharing because there was apparently no official path forward.

Thank you for the clarification

Cool development - love the additions to the Console.
Several of the templates I currently have as part of my Tiller sheet show as “Restore.” Can you explain this status - I don’t want to overwrite, but if they are more current versions I would want to have the latest and greatest.

Thank you

I love having the templates available like this instead of searching the side bar and squinting to see what they look like. Thanks!

Are you active on the community? Many people post their workflow there. What do your sheets do? Can you broadly describe it, I always think that new templates can be useful to many people!

Is there a webinar recording on templates? What’s available, when to use them, how to reverse them, etc?

That is a great question @betty.tuller ! I haven’t seen a full webinar that addresses templates. The best information right now is the help guides available for templates.

@taylorvance great question. I’ll check in with the team about this. I’m not sure why someone said the program is on hold.

@gallagher.patty5 “Restore” is only needed if you broke something in your sheet or you want to start fresh with it. No need to use that if everything is working.

@Rebecca.S glad you’re loving the new feature! Definitely nice having more screen real estate. @betty.tuller no webinar, but I did create this quick video to go along with our new Tips Series videos.

Thanks. Will try it this weekend. I’ve been with Tiller a long time now and, like others, wondering if it pays to start fresh…
