Same as Cash Credit Card Transactions

Does anyone have any ideas on how to handle same as cash transactions wherein you have x months to payoff without paying interest but the transaction comes through in tiller when it the purchase is made. How do you setup the monthly payments in the budget.

I think it kind of depends on how you like to budget. I would expense it when it’s charged since that’s the actual purchase, then treat the monthly payments separately like a “same as cash” or short-term debt kind of thing.

Set up a transfer category for the payments, and even though transfers themselves don’t really show as spending, the category on the payment is what keeps it showing correctly in your reports and budget.

So basically: hit the budget once on purchase, then track the payback like debt. It’s not a “real loan” technically, but it kind of behaves like one in your budget setup.

Side question did this transaction have an initial fee that came this installment plan, or was that waived as part of a promotion, or is this like a net 90 terms?
