We are in the thick of tax season 2026. I hope the financial organization you’ve strived for all year is bearing fruit. Feel free to share your experience below.
It’s time for our Q1 community awards and I offer sincere apologies for the delay in getting these out…
Community Leaders
This quarter, we are excited to recognize seven new community leaders— @casilverthorn.96, @daveahlers, @rhbaskin, @ghsubs1, @Mark5, @Lulu, and @djsanch12. As you probably know, new Community Leaders earn a one free year of Tiller (applied to their subscription) and membership in the Tiller Beta group.
Let’s start with a special builder shoutout to @daveahlers on his newly-published Amazon-purchase Add-on which can help you get a handle on your Amazon purchases at the line-item level. Congratulations, @daveahlers, for taking the lead on this popular workflow, navigating the onerous Google Marketplace publishing process, and sharing and supporting your work.
Let’s also callout some of the contributions from this community’s talented Builders in Q1 of 2026 (these are clickable!):
I have to admit that I am excited to see tiller continually stabilizing/enhancing its offering. I used to use Money in Excel, with Plaid as the conduit, but it was pretty flaky, and I had to abandon it. But I have seen no missteps with your offering to date. I am also trying to understand what google sheets offers functionally that excel does not yet. If the offering is significant, there is probably no reason I could not transition my tiller to google sheets.
I am retired and budgeting and/or preparing for retirement is not as important to me, but I DO value the accumulation of all financial data in one package. (banks, investments, CC’s etc). The one issue I would like to see is the integration between categories and AutoCat. If I have something I would like to see categorized differently, I have to create the category, then in autocat define what triggers would warrant a categorization to that category.
Since my bank payments to my CC’s comes across differently month to month, (sometimes it just says “Thank you for your payment” and other times “Payment received by account xxx” I have to go to transactions, filter just bank and CC transactions, scan through list looking for blank categorizations, and if appropriate, choose 1) which to pick if it is in the list or 2) create a new category, and in autocat include triggers that register it.
I suspect if this was easy, it would have been done by now and it is my failing to follow up. I don’t know if the community would benefit, when autocat is run, to pop up any transactions with blank categories, prompt for how it should be categorized and create the entries based on prompts. Concept seems simple enough but as always the devil is in the details.
That said, I appreciate the work and offering you have allowed us to use, and look forward to a long and healthy relationship. I will also say, in addition to your online community, I have had one or two missteps on my part which mucked up my SS. I found that MS CoPilot (or probably any of the other AI offerings) has been pretty successful at getting me back on track so that has made life simpler for me.
