Creating new rules for autocat deletes all tags from the Transactions sheet

As I create rules for certain new transactions to assign them a category and then run these new rules, it’s deleting all the tags entered in the separate tags column in other transactions. In the past, this issue has not happened. Curious what I am doing wrong or if there is an issue with autocat.

Wow, that is strange. I hadn’t heard of AutoCat rules affecting other transactions. Do you have any AutoCat rules that modify tags? I wonder if somehow one of the rules has a space in the Tags column in the AutoCat sheet, so it’s replacing all the tags with space?

Yes, certainly wierd and I have not experienced this earlier. Just checked my autocat tab and confirming that I have not set up autocat for modifying tabs (all autocat rules only modify the category). When autocat runs in the background with newly downloaded transactions, the old rules work great and the are correctly auto categorized. If an autocat is run manually (or when creating a new rule) all tags get deleted.

My autocat rules ran without issue today. My tags for other transactions remained as they were previously. I hope someone can sort this out for you.

Problem only occurs when I manually run Autocat. My autocat sheet has a few completely empty rows. I wonder if that is causing the problem.

I haven’t tried it, but I suspect that running Autocat with the “Run Rules on All” when there are matching rules that have blank Tags field it will clear it on those matching transactions even if they already had Tags values added manually. I think override columns replace whatever is there with the contents which would amount to removal when it’s empty. Is that possibly what happened?

@jchugani It would be best to reach out to support directly. They can take a look at your rules and troubleshoot this issue.

Logically, that sounds correct. However, I am not running “Run Rules on All”. Also, I have not added any rules relating to tags. I do not even have a tags column in the Autocat sheet.

Thank you. That is what I will do now that I have run out of options on finding a solution.

My previously set Autocat rules work fine on new transactions. I have this issue when adding new rules unfortunately.
