So far my Tiller journey has been smooth; everything in 2025 is properly categorized, mostly using the Autocat feature. I’d like to bring in my check register for 2024, and use the same Autocat rule set to categorize those historic transactions.
A couple of concerns:
Can I simply duplicate my foundation sheet, and bring along all the Autocat rules? Or are than any extra steps involved? I don’t want to import transactions to my live foundation template, as I’m worried about wreaking havoc? So just making a 2024 version of the template instead.
My plan was to export all of 2024 to a CSV including just the basic fields: date, payee, check #, amount, etc. I would arrange these fields of data in columns that match the foundation template and simply copy and paste into my 2024 version of the foundation template. Would this be the fastest/easiest approach?
Any thoughts/ideas appreciated! ~Bill A.
You can duplicate your sheet but we have seen an intermittent error with launching Tiller Money Feeds from within a copied Foundation Template due to some file metadata issues.
Alternatively migrate your data to a new Foundation Template. We suggest only migrating Transactions, Categories and Balance History tabs and data. The other templates/tabs ought to be populated by data from the aforementioned. If you’re using a Google Sheet one can copy a tab across other sheets.
If you’re looking to use CSVs to populate historical transactions here are CSV import tools/options.
Hi @twalane, do you have a link to the posts where copying has resulted in error with launching Tiller Money Feeds? i’ve have duplicated sheets and linked to tiller numerous times without issue, but always good to head off potential headaches?
and @billalpert if you haven’t already migrated the data; i’ve done the same thing previously but instead of having a separate file i’ve saved a copy as a back up and then imported using the CSV import function. this is so i have 1 file with everything, if i mess-up i can just go back to the good version. and if i do want to bifurcate years in the future i can create a copy and just not link it to tiller.
HI @ctlee not sure what you mean? A post of some sort of statement from Tiller to this effect or posts of customer’s who’ve written in with this issue? Either way I don’t recall a post being done here and the cases I’ve come across customer’s had written into support directly.
