Hiring a specialist

Hi folks -

This is my 3rd (4th?) attempt at figuring out Tiller. Not compatible with my non-spreadsheet speaking brain. I have finally got all my institutions importing, and figured out the complications of Paypal going through my bank account, etc. but figuring out how to do last years taxes is breaking me (and yes! They are overdue!).

I can only get 2023 statements from my bank in pdf. I purchased a product allowed me to convert them to csv files, but now they are hard to understand (a lot more info/numbers than i think I need).

I’d love to figure this out, but I’m wondering if there is a guide to importing and catagorizing past years without screwing up my current sheets?

Is it possible to hire someone to go over this with me?

THanks for your help!

Eleanor

Yes and no, there is a guide for uploading CSV, How to Manually Import Your Bank Data | Tiller Help Center
but generally not more than that as everyone’s scenario is different.
What i did was to create a copy of the spreadsheet to either revert or restart as needed. and then create excel templates for certain pdfs that were as standard as possible
It’s been a while, not sure if there any specific vendor for customization that tiller endorses. I think the service you’re looking for is generally data formatting into the CSV to upload
Also, when you say categorizing do you mean overall autocat or something else?

Hi Eleanor,

While I’m sure Tiller would like it to be used by everyone it’s definitely better suited towards people who are comfortable with spreadsheets.

You might have better luck with other solutions or even working with an advisor that has access to tools. Importing old transactions can be easier with Tiller since it’s easy to manipulate the data after it’s imported but that still requires familiarity with spreadsheets.

But if you stick with Tiller and get your old data imported going forward it should be easier if all of your accounts sync.

Good luck!

Hi Eleanor. I created an application in Excel that’s fairly advanced but I might be able to help you with a basic version of it. My app uses Tiller just to collect data from bank accounts and my one credit card. It compares actual expenses against budget amounts and summarizes it all visually in charts. And the workbook has a worksheet consisting of an income statement in the form of a pivot table which I use to help me prepare my federal tax return. I want to the trouble of doing this because it work much better than Quickbooks for me.

Maybe there’s a way for Tiller to put us in touch. I don’t know if that’s possible or, if so, how. BUT, what you want can be done but you have to have the mindset, like sticking to a budget, to follow through with it.

Hi @EleanorO after importing and formatting your data in a separate sheet perhaps you can copy paste into a Transactions sheet duplicate just to ensure you have all your data aligned and you can be confident it’ll match your actual Transactions sheet. And then copy paste (values only) into your actual Transactions sheet. Which platform are you using? Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel?
