How do you use Autocat to re-describe already categorized transactions?

I saw Heather’s helpful video on creating Advanced Autocat rules for new uncategorized transactions to describe them more neatly. For example, changing the half dozen variations of Costco #1234 and COSTCO #5678 to just “Costco Wholesale”

  1. How do you do the same thing but for already-categorized transactions? I have hundreds of transactions I want to rename the description on to make it consistent. Do I really have to delete the category on all the already pre-categorized transactions to get Autocat to work on them?
  2. After changing the description, how do I see what the original description was (if I need to get the transaction number for example)

Hi, jules.

Open the Tiller Money Feeds Extension and click on the :gear: next to Autocat. At the bottom choose “All Transactions”

Close the settings and run Autocat from the main panel. After the run, you might want to reset the “All Transactions”

Tailgating on @ramerkw here: If you are retiring a category completely, check out “Rename category” in the Tiller Community Solutions extension. This is a streamlined global-search-and-replace routine, which will keep your other tabs synced with any category change you make on the Transactions tab using this process.

Thank you both, Kevin and Greg! (for both the helpful screenshot and the extension tip)
