Incomplete paypal transactions

I use PayPal for a lot of subscriptions and find that many transaction descriptions are incomplete. It may say “Recurring payment to” but the recipient is blank. Others will include the merchant name which allows it to be autocategorized. I can hand enter the merchants but wonder if this is something that is “normal” or symptomatic of an error. Is it a feature or a bug?

I have been able to autocat Paypal withdrawals from my bank as transfers to avoid duplication of charges showing up in my reports. It would be nice if I could autocat merchant payments without having to hand enter them.

It shouldn’t be a feature. Are you by any chance seeing the same kind of transaction truncated differently in different instances? I think writing into support is a good idea, with a screenshot of how it looks like in the sheet vs your online account site.

Yes. Some of the transactions show up in my sheet with the recipient included, but others do not. Contacting support may be in order.
