I have about 40 historical transactions to add from one of my credit card accounts. Using the button ‘+ Add Transaction’ in the Tiller Money Feeds works, but is laborious. I’d like to copy in transactions from the institution (in proper column order of course.) Two questions:
The only difference between the ‘+ Add Transaction’ feature and my data is that I don’t have a ‘transaction ID.’ What is the value of haing a transaction ID?
The recommended instructions ask me to insert data at the ned of the table. May I insert 40 blank records between my first and second records and then copy the data into that range? Why insert at the bottom of the table?
What’s happens if you move the first row in transactions?
I just added a manual transaction that was missed last month and it was added as the top row of transactions (w/ the transactions of the next month), even though it has the right transaction date.
Although Monthly budget is accounting for everything correctly, I would like to cut and paste that top row with transactions of the same date. Will that mess anything up?
@chris.meyers did you add it using the Add Transaction tool in the Tiller Money Feeds sidebar?
Just confirming that if so, it’s expected behavior that it gets added to the top and stays there. That operation (add manual via sidebar) does not sort the Transactions sheet by the Date column newest to oldest the way the fill does.
I found it by selecting the extensions tab at the top, tiller money feeds, and then manual transaction. Is Add Transaction different than manual transaction? Will I mess anything up by cutting and pasting that row further down?
@chris.meyers the Add Transaction is the best way to manually add transactions. I don’t recommend copy/paste. If you want those transactions ordered chronologically, just sort by the date column newest to oldest.
When I look at my spreadsheet, the tiller extension lists manual transaction, and that is how I add the transactions for my manual accounts when I only have one or two to add. That said, when I was having to manually track one institution, I did it differently as I had about 40 recurring transactions. @heather, can you tell us where the add transaction is you are referring to is, or is it just add manual transaction screen?
Ah gotcha. It is listed as manual transaction in the money feed extension, but uses add transaction once the sidebar is open; explains my confusion on naming. Thank you!
I have found that when I add something to the top row of data it can occasionally mess something up or get stuck as always the top item.
I don’t have the same issue when adding an item a few rows down. My mortgage wasn’t syncing for awhile so I would just make a copy of the previous month’s entry right above it and change the dates. Then on the next refresh things would sort correctly.
