Passkey Support

I searched the forums and was surprised to find zero hits on the term “passkey.” HealthEquity recently started requiring passkeys to log in to their website. Obviously, this is a Yodlee or other data provider issue, but is there a plan in place? It seems like this is only going to be a growing issue going forward. Maybe Open Banking solves this, I don’t know.

Great question @chrisgp123 Chris. I too have been wondering about passkey usage and transitioning away from passwords. I also didn’t find any information on Yodlee’s plans for passkeys. I did find information that Plaid has already implemented passkeys. Some sites are just now implementing MFA like 2FA while other sites are moving forward quickly with passkeys. I believe passkeys are vulnerable to hacking and will probably require a second step of authentication eventually.

Good question @chrisgp123 . Are you seeing any changes with refreshes in Tiller?

Yeah, as soon as the passkey requirement started, the refreshes started failing. No luck with “Edit Credentials” either.

Sounds like an excellent feature request. I’d vote for it.

@chrisgp123 thanks for sharing this extra context. Given that this is a feature the bank is requiring and our data provider is the one that handles the integration with the banks support for passkey authentication isn’t something that we specifically would be able to build. I can definitely ask our account manager about it though to see if its on their radar, but I suspect its a pretty tricky thing to implement. If the institution went to an OAUTH connection I think that would likely be a solve.

Yeah that’s what I figured. Not a big deal yet.

Just chiming in that I’m affected by this as well and that I believe it’ll be more common.

@chrisgp123 Wow, I didn’t realize they only allow Passkeys now. That is going to be interesting to see how Financial apps and data aggregators find a solution for this.
