Does anyone know the best way to deal with Savings Budget Categories that, in the past, had the “Savings” value in the Track column in the Categories tab, but you no longer want to track going forward? If you just remove the Savings value for that category, then all of the history of tracking that category’s rollover data is no longer visible on the Savings Budget tab. If you leave it, then you have a category with no budget and no spending which is appearing in the Savings Budget every month, which is distracting. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
I don’t know of a way to fix that. I have not really come across a need for that; when I change things up, I do it at the beginning of the year. For categories I no longer use, it doesn’t matter, and if I don’t want to track something anymore, I will do an adjustment to the savings amount and make a note in the budget journal.
If you can give more details of what you need and why, maybe someone can help with ideas.
Thanks… just looking to retain history while at the same time not have the category appearing every month going forward when it has no actual or budget data or savings data (zero for all). As long as the Savings value is active in the Categories tab, it will always appear there.
Did you try selecting “hide from reports”? I’m wondering if that would hide your history, too, or just tracking going forward.
Well, Hide from Reports will remove it from all reporting pages like budgets…but I want to still see the history of the category and just exclude it from appearing in the future months. I’m trying to figure this out moreso for the app Offsheets. I’ll just have to come up with some logic to hide it when the user has a 0 available, 0 budget, and 0 actual data for any given month.
