Ditto. @heather I also would like to test, as long as it doesn’t require access to all my docs and I would want to know the backout procedure up front.
I’m interested in testing. Did Google add new auth scopes?
@galatic_incipient - please write to our support team at support@tillerhq.com for help with this issue. The info we need to debug with you requires 1:1 support. Thanks!
@djsanch12 @Evgen @cal @taylorvance I’ve enabled the Advanced Security setting for you. You can read more about it here: Turn on Advanced Security - Google Docs
As far as the setting goes there isn’t anything you’d need to do to make a backup, but if something goes wrong with the upgrade (your sheet stops filling, etc) it may be helpful to create a named version (from the File menu > Version History) before you upgrade so you have a restore point where you can restore back to and then unlink and relink with the sidebar/Tiller Money Feeds.
So first of all, this is working great so far. One thing, though, that is a little annoying is that my filter views’ ranges no longer hold between fills. With the old system, somehow the entered rows inserted “within” the ranges of my filter views on the txns sheet. Now, every time I go to the txns sheet and use a filter view to see a subset of txns, I have to reset the range:
I have that issue as well, and it started about the time I started using direct fills at the beginning of the year. I thought it might be because of a google update. I have to try to remember to reset my filter when I get done. Though this is a problem on balance history and other sheets that might be filtered as well.
Thank you for listening to reasonable feedback regarding an unreasonable security model.
I am more than happy to try the new approach with limited permissions and provide feedback.
@xabriel Your feedback is valued and appreciated to Tiller and the user community.. I really appreciate it too. I have found that the community form is one of the things that makes Tiller unique and special. I’ve also found that the Tiller team values all input and suggestions and they interact directly here with the users. Thank you for taking the time to provide your concerns and expert advice.
I’d like to test this too.
I was able to get it started from the second attempt. First attempt told me to use Google file picker, which I had to look up. It didn’t make much sense as it seems to be an API for Tiller to use. But then I tried updating to direct fills again, and it actually ran that picker, so I could pick the file (must double-click it - single click does nothing), and now it says it uses direct fills. Let’s see how it goes.
Evgenii
Hello @heather ,
Would that be automatic if we had already upgraded to direct fills?
@xabriel and @folkhero I’ve enabled this for you, doc is here: Turn on Advanced Security - Google Docs
@Evgen thanks for your feedback, it’s definitely not polished yet.
@PCB I don’t understand your question.
I was wondering if the authorization scope has been automatically narrowed if we had already enabled direct fills or if we needed to change a setting.
After several days with (the minimal access scope) direct fills, this seems to be working well. Based on the logs, the updates run roughly every hour, with multiple retries sometimes. I think that’s an overkill and 2-4 updates per day would be enough. I usually see transactions delayed by a day or so, meaning that likely Yoddlee/Plaid data update frequency is lower anyway.
I turned on advance security. I have 2 google sheets that were both using direct fill. I unlinked one, relinked, and updated to direct fills with advanced security. I was prompted to choose the spreadsheet I wanted to share. No problems works fine.
I unlinked and relinked the other sheet, upgraded to direct fills. There was no opportunity to approve/select this sheet like there was with the first sheet. Direct fills appears to be working fine though.
If i didn’t have the opportunity to select a exact sheet to upgrade is advanced security working for this sheet?
Great question @folkhero and thanks for bringing this to my attention. Based on my testing there is some cleanup we need to do with the UX for this when you granted the all sheets permission but then later want to downgrade to the specific file permission.
Right now, when you switch on the Advanced Security setting and you see the “re-authenticate” banner at the top, what that’s doing is just asking for the “specific file” permission to be added to your Google account connections. Switching on the setting doesn’t actually revoke the other permission from your Google account.
However, what I found was even after removing both of the permissions at https://myaccount.google.com/connections and then re-authenticating in Tiller (after also revoking the access on my.tiller.com/settings at the bottom) I did not have to unlink and relink my sheets in order for them to continue filling. But once that all sheets permissions is gone from my Google account, Tiller no longer has that access.
I’ve updated the guide to include the specific steps needed in this situation.
I’ll be sharing this with the team for us to clean up as we continue making additional improvements that are needed before broadly enabling this Advanced Security feature.
@PCB the scope does not automatically get narrowed just by turnning on the Advanced Security setting if you had already granted the broader permissions. I’ve just updated the guide here with the specific steps for this situation.
@Evgen thanks for confirming things are working well. We do have some optimization to do on the fills (we are triggering too many right now because of how Yodlee sends us updates) but the idea is that we fill the data immediately after it comes in from the aggregator so there is no waiting.
The update skipped messages are a fill trying to start, but it’s probably not actually needed (yodlee is verbose :D)
My sheets have stopped being filled around the timing of this email. I tried the original “Fill Sheet” method, and nothing. Then I upgraded to auto filling. Still nothing. Help??? ![]()
@jon.r.neal please write to support@tillerhq.com for help with this.
Thanks. I’m currently waiting on chat, but no one is available right now. If I walk away does that unreplied chat just turn into email correspondence? Or does it get lost and I should email support as you said?
