Hi,
When the AI Suggest gets a category wrong and I need to change it, should I also delete the “Categorized By” and “Categorization Notes” cells? Does the AI look at these during future runs?
Thanks,
-Chris

Hi @ChrisMildebrandt I’d say yes, at the very least for accuracy erase those details. AI suggest does look at such if you add a review column for instance.
Thanks @twalane for the vote to erase those values, that’s what I’ve been doing so far.
In the case of the review column you linked to, that just adds highlighting based on the value of the “Categorized By” value and the checkbox column. Those instructions don’t mention that the AI suggest tool uses the review column as feedback.
For example, the first step says, “Add a checkbox to column A (if it’s still blank and not being used for another purpose) otherwise add a new column and title it “Review” (or whatever you’d like to call it).” If the AI suggest tool would use this checkbox, I would think it would need either a specific column letter or a specific title.
Maybe I misunderstood your intent?
I meant that the “Categorized By” column is looked at if you add a review column, so you’d want it to be accurate. - I understood this to be your question; that you wondered whether it matters the state you leave “Categorized By” in when you’ve had to manually correct the Category. - right?
Ah, I see the confusion. I’m not using the review column at all. I was curious if the AI Suggest tool takes into consideration previous “Categorized By” values to determine if it “got it right”.
For example, let’s say I have a transaction for “Eggs and stuff” that the AI categorizes as “groceries”. I know this to be a restaurant, so I change the category to “restaurant”. Now if I don’t clear the “Categorized By” column, will the AI think it chose “restaurant” earlier? Or does it not go that deep taking past transactions into its feedback?
I hope that makes sense.
Thanks for the clarification @ChrisMildebrandt I get what you mean now. It appears not to look into the “Categorized By” for that - it first bases categorization on prior matching transactions with the same full description otherwise uses LLM.

Great, thanks for the follow-up!
