Hey hey, I was doing some “light reading” of the Tiller help center (I know how to live it up 
) and the article was talking about the ungrouped accounts on the Balance tab. These can be customized with the Accounts tab… but the Accounts tab is BLANK! Why is that and how can you utilize this sheet?
1. Create Custom Account Groups
By default, your accounts on the Balances sheet are usually just under “Ungrouped Asset” or “Ungrouped Liability.” Use the Group column on the Accounts sheet to set up categories that make sense for your financial life.
- Tiller Tip: Simply select an account from the dropdown in the Account column, and then type your custom group name (like “Monthly Checking,” “Credit Cards for Travel,” or “Kids College Savings”) into the Group column. This instantly tidies up your Balances view!
2. Correct Account Classifications
Sometimes an account is pulled in with the wrong type (Asset or Liability). If your investment account is showing up as a liability, that’s confusing!
- Spreadsheet Tip: You can fix this by using the Class column. Just select “Asset” or “Liability” to override the default setting and ensure your net worth calculation is accurate.
3. Hide the Clutter
Got a closed account whose balance is zero but it’s still floating around? Or an account you want to exclude from your main reports?
- Customer Engagement: Use the “hide” flag on the Accounts sheet to tuck those accounts away. This keeps your reports focused and makes sure you’re only tracking what matters right now.
Heads Up on Renaming Accounts!
If you rename an account in the Tiller Console, remember to jump back to the Accounts sheet. The account dropdown list pulls from the console, so you’ll need to re-select the account’s new name in the Account column to keep your custom groups and classes linked up.
