Direct Fill CORRUPTING DATA

This is a warning for other users. I turned on Direct Fill on Thursday. On Friday morning my Google Sheet Transaction Tab had data in several of the heading columns (i.e. the heading had been removed), and half a dozen new transactions were added. However, while there was data in the Description column, there is no data in the Amount or account columns. Today another half dozen transactions were added with the same problem.

There appears to be no way to turn off direct fill.

I put in a help request early Friday morning, but so far no response from Tiller.

I had inserted a Sub-Tag column and possibly moved the tag column (can’t remember) months ago, but neither of these affected my spreadsheet until now.

Oh No! Sorry to hear it’s not working as designed for you. I hadn’t heard of that happening for anyone else, there must be something unique about your sheet that is causing it to misbehave. I can’t imagine something as simple as a Tag or Sub-Tag column would mess it up. Was your column headings in row 1 before they got written over? I could see it having trouble if you had inserted anything above the headings.

Thanks! I’m really glad that this isn’t happening to other people, but it’s certainly something folks should be aware of. I’ll post again when the issue’s been resolved; hopefully we’ll know what caused it in my particular case. And yes, the headings were in row 1 just as expected before they got overwritten.

I am sorry this happened to you! I didn’t convert my sheet, but have been using direct fills for some time and it doesn’t have issues like you described. To add to this, if you are using sheets, the data should be there to restore to previous version - though I am not sure what that looks like upon upgrade to direct fills, and you can make a copy and maintain your older data without corruption. Either way, you should make a copy of your data or disconnect the sheet temporarily before further possible corruption until tiller support is able to get back to you.
