I just downloaded the newest transactions and when trying to update Categories. The following error is appearing. Any input or support would be greatly appreciated
Do you have a lot of transactions already on the sheets? ie there’s a cell limit overall. Aside from that have do you custom formulas or lots of additional sheets installed? ie those would also be pulling resources to calculate?
Not allot. Just year 2025 and the start of 2026. I did add a couple of sheets to help put 2026 Budget together, but I deleted those once I updated my categories.
@mjcoleman0 Michael, have you added any community solutions prior to this error? If you added a community solution recently, try removing it and see if that resolves the issue.
Also, take a look at your Category sheet. Check for the following:
- any manually created types (only income, expense and type are allowed)
- any entries not completely populated with a category, group, and type
- any blank rows inter-mixed with the entries (rows)
- any blank rows after your last entry within the table. Those can be deleted
I have not added any community solutions, but I just reviewed my categories sheet as you requested. One thing that happened is CHAT GPT ask me if I wanted to consolidate some data. I said yes and then realized it was probably not a good thing to do. I thought I “undo” what it asked about blanks and duplicate fields but apparently not.
Just downloaded new transactions and getting the same error message.
What if I take my current transaction and category sheet and copy/past in a new template. ???
@mjcoleman0 Michael,
There are other sheets that would need to be copied over too. One which is hidden. It’s doable.
However, there are some other options too.
Did Chat GPT consolidate just your Category sheet? Or did it also consolidate your Transaction sheet too? If it is just the Category sheet, I would try fixing or redoing your Category sheet first. Make a copy of the tab in the same spreadsheet. Delete all the rows except the header row. Then reenter the Categories using the copied tab data as a reference point only.
If your Transaction sheet is messed up, you could restore your Excel template to a point in time before the Chat GPT change. A refresh should bring your transaction sheet up to date and then you would categorize them again.
Let me know which path you choose and I can post some Help guides.
I have reviewed the category sheet, and all is good. Its the transaction sheet I was updating when Chat GPT asked me to consolidate data and blanks so I believe that is the sheet that has issues. If we can restore that sheet it should work.
That worked and I deleted some of the additional tabs I had added and now all is good and no more error messages. thank you for your support
Awesome. I’m glad it worked and you are able to move forward.
