I have been using Tiller Excel version since 2022. Over the years I have seen a bit of activity in the community related to the use of Categories/SubCategories, data retention, and general spreadsheet hygiene.
I have added several community worksheets to my original template, modified all of the categories (more than once) in search of the perfect category / sub-category / tab structure, and downloaded thousands of transactions.
Does it make sense to ‘upgrade’ to the latest Tiller Foundation? If it does, is the process as simple as opening up the new Foundation template and moving my data from my old spreadsheet to the new?
I have started over in a new spreadsheet, and I don’t really like losing the customization I have done, but I have done that. I also started a new sheet when Direct Fills came out. If you have tons of customization, then it might be easier to just update the one you are currently using with the missing columns in the transactions tab instead of trying to remember the customizations done to each template. As of now there is no template for the subcategories, though there is much discussion on it, so there is no upgrade for this. That said if you want to just start a whole new sheet, you can, and then copy paste the categories and transactions if they don’t automatically fill. When I changed sheets, all of my prior transactions were filled into the new sheet, so I just had to copy my categories, auto-cat rules and reinstall template or copy the sheet if it had customization in it.
Edit to add: I think I had to copy some of the balance history also maybe.
