Question Answer
Will we get a recording of this? Yes. in a day . Including Q&A and resources
I’m running the most recent version of IOS on my Mac. It seems to have broken the link to Tiller. Thoughts? Not sure about this. We ask that for technical issues like this that you instead send a new message using the blue chat widget in the lower right corner of your Console at https://my.tiller.com or write to support@tiller.com so that we can get more details
Started using Tiller with Google Sheets. Recently purchased Excel for a number of reasons. Is it possible to convert from Sheets to Excel without losing data? Yes! You can use these steps to migrate your data manually. Migrate your financial data between spreadsheets | Tiller Help Center
In the transactions section, is there a way to have the drop down menu for Categories to only show the expenses categories and likewise for income. There currently isn’t a way to filter the categories dropdown, it will show all categories you’ve defined
I use the Savings Budget sheet. What’s the best way to go from 2025 to 2026? I also have 2024 info in my current sheet. Thank you Please review this part of the documentation Docs: Savings Budget sheet . If that doesn’t address your need please comment in the thread as support for Community Templates is provided there first.
My wife and I love TIller but we haven’t been able to figure out how to track or see our year to date totals spent on budget categories that aren’t fixed. Like if we’re budgeting $50 a month on coffee but some months we spend more and some months we spend less, how can we see where we’re at over the course of the year on our $600 total. The Yearly Budget is handy, the first few columns show you budget, actual, and available for the 12 month period. The Simple P&L which we also discussed and show you these details too.
will this cover how to run the reports for the year of 2025? Hopefully our review of the Yearly Budget and Simple P&L were helpful here!
Are there any changes made to the 2026 Tiller template? No significant changes. If there is no need to start in a new sheet you can keep and continue to use your current sheet. If there are any updates to a template, this can be done using the Templates feature of the Tiller Money Feeds add-on or add-in.
Also, wrt the Categories, is it possible to have the same name for income and expenses. For example, I have one item on my budget for a workshop we lead. I need to be able to mark expenses and incomes against the same name. Right now I’m having to add the word EXP or INC to the category name so I know which item to choose on the Categories drop down menu in the transactions tab. Categories need to be unique so you won’t be able to use the same category label for both income and expenses in this context. Your current approach is the best way to do this.
I find that including brokerages into tiller along with my bank and credit cards really clutters the transaction and categories. So I end up running different sheets, one with just the bank and credit card, and the brokerages just provided current totals. Would be nice to not have to do these gymnastics, if we had the ability to filter what gets included in the transactions, and what gets included in the networth history would be helpful. We don’t currently have this feature but you should vote for this feature request.
When appropriate, please explain if Tiller will eventually support downloading banking transactions with banks that require MFA. We do support banks that require MFA but likely you’re required to manually refresh them to get the data pulled in, and that definitely can be tedious. This will get better as more banks move to open banking, or OAUTH connections.
how do you get the networth to show on the spending trends tab. Mine is 0. Please send a new message using the blue chat widget in the lower right corner of your Console at https://my.tiller.com or write to support@tiller.com so that we can get more details.
Is it possible to have an unlimited amount of categories? I ran into the issue last year that it could only be 199 line items Currently you can have up to 20 unique groups with up to 200 categories total.
Can add Type categories? for example Investment Yes, I believe you can do what you’re asking. Every category must be assigned a Group and a Type. Your Groups can be custom, but our templates only support the Types: Income, Expense, and Transfer. Any other Type can break the templates.
My negative amounts in the yearly budget tab are not in red (like the current example). How do I get that to happen? This is a conditional formatting rule that was modified to make them red. The conditional formatting rule is already in the Yearly Budget sheet, but the row count needs to be expanded in it and it needs to be dragged down to the bottom of the conditional formatting list.
on thd yearly budget, how do we add 2026 as an option. When you click on the Year dropdown either on the Monthly or Yearly Budget sheets in Google sheets, you will see a pencil icon, when you click on that options will appear on the sidebar. Simply add an item and enter 2026.
How do I export some of my information to share with my financial advisor? I’ve never looked for templates for this function, but I will directly. If you’re in Google Sheets we have a guide here on Google’s collaboration functions. This would be similar if using Excel Online/ your file is on OneDrive.
How secure is Google Sheets? I am using Excel on my desktop but have thought about moving to Google Sheets but still uncomfortable with cloud security.
Is Simple P&L for Excel Spreadsheet too? Yes. Please see the help guide here Using the Simple P&L Template | Tiller Help Center
How does the new P&L template differ from the Budget sheets in the foundational template? The main difference is that the Simple P&L doesn’t show you any budget target or available values. Please learn more about the P&L here Using the Simple P&L Template | Tiller Help Center. It doesn’t have budget related information that you would have for the Budget sheets
I would like to see my 2024, 2023 and 2022 net worth. Is there a way I can see that? I believe you can see one year at a time for up to 12 years in the community net worth template. More details here: Docs: Net Worth Tracker - this is one of the community templates you can install using Tiller Money Feeds
Do you have recommendations for handling large items, like property taxes, vacations, etc, where they are paid one time but it’s necessary to save up for the large expense. You can just set the budget to $0 for months where you don’t have that expense. If you want to see accrued savings for a particular category you’d want to use the Savings Budget sheet. Docs: Savings Budget sheet
Curious how people handle credit cards that are used for regular purchases and then paid off every month. Doing more of this to build up miles.

I want to be able to see the payments I’m making to make sure I can fully cover them, but having a budget category for credit card payments throws off all the reporting since I’m double counting (CC charge and payoff).
In this situation you’d just want to use a transfer type category for the credit card payment, and categorize all the purchases based on the intent of the spending. You can read more about transfers here: Understanding Transfers | Tiller Help Center
Any news/updates regarding equities tracking? I believe you’re meaning investment holdings, and no, we don’t have updates there yet.

I know there are a few people who offer some type of service like this.

I see that Heather has a category specifed for credit card payments. Is this best practice to do this vs lumping it all in the transfer category? If so, should we also then exclude the credit card payment category from reports? I think this use case part of the guide will help. It depends on your needs and what makes the most sense for you Understanding Transfers | Tiller Help Center. Please write in to support for more advice or you can check out this lively community topic. For those who don't "over track" expenses but have a good system, care to share your Group/Categories?

Is there a maximum amount of data you recommend keeping in a sheet before making a new one? I have had the same sheet since 2018 and I like being able to look at the progress over the last 7 yeras but at some point will it get too heavy for Google sheets? We don’t have a specific limit or amount of data documented on when you may hit performance issues. This is mainly because the performance issues tend to come up when you have complex sheets and dashboards combined with a large dataset.

Is there an option to input yearly budgets rather than month by month? Not at this time, but that’s a great idea for a feature request. https://community.tiller.com/c/feature-requests/15
I’d prefer my 2026 budget on the ‘Categories’ tab to be based on my 2025 actual spend vs. the budget i defined on the categories tab for 2025. Is there an easy way to get the grouped transaction data for each month (like on the yearly budget tab) to populate my categories for 2026 There isn’t a way for it to populate those automatically, but you can use the method I demonstrated to find the average or just manually copy/paste from the simple P&L.
In Heather’ sheet - there is a Balance History sheet. How do you add this sheet? this is a hidden sheet Understanding the Balance History Sheet | Tiller Help Center

After I added 2026 in Excel, I get this error message: Excel ran out of resources while attempting to calculate one or more formulas. As a result, these formulas cannot be evaluated. Sometimes this can be related to software updates which are missing or have been introduced and are causing a problem and a subsequent update can resolve it. Please confirm your operating system and Microsoft 365 Office applications are updated to the most recent versions.
I have a template sheet installed called “Budget Plan”. I no longer see this in the templates list. Is this no longer supported? This is a community-built and supported template so it’s likely still available in the Tiller Community.

is there a way to automate the deletion of transactions? Perhaps via autocat rule? There are many transactions across accounts that end up being duplicates that currently requires manual deletion which takes extra time in the workflow. Thanks There is not a way to automate the deletion of transactions. I’d be curious to learn more about what you mean by transactions that end up being duplicates. I could imagine that transfers may appear as though they’re duplicates, but really they aren’t. Feel free to write in to support via chat to learn more.

You shared the way to add a new Category. What is the best way to remove a category that is no longer applicable/used in the new year? The best way is to just hide the category on the Categories sheet using the Hide from Reports option. If you really want to remove the category entirely you’d also need to clean up the Transactions sheet and AutoCat sheets if the old category exists there.

I generally just categorize everything related to investments as a transfer, but I also have a really simple situation.
