Why is my Autocat not working sometimes?

I have noticed sometimes even when I have a rule set up in my Autocat sheet, it gets ignored and a transaction is put it the wrong category. Here’s a specific example:

I have a rule that says if the text contains “Shefayoga” then the transaction should go into my “Group Fitness Classes” category and the description should be changed to “Shefa Yoga”.

The transaction in this example has this description text: “Shefayoga Venice, Www.shefayogaca”.

Instead of following my Autocat rule the transaction gets categorized as “Restaurants” (which matches with the category hint). It’s a yoga studio, not a restaurant.

Shouldn’t the Autocat rules be followed first before using the category hint or the AI? (I do have the AI option turned on).

Good news! I actually figured this out. Here’s the solution in case this helps someone.

I realized I also had an Autocat rule that said if category hint = “Restaurants” then make the category = “Restaurants” and this Autocat rule was higher up than my “Shefyoga” rule. So to fix this I just had to move the category hint rule down as it seems to work from top to bottom on the Autocat sheet. What I did in the end was move all my category hint rules down to the bottom so they get lower priority. Why the category hint is “Restaurants” for a yoga studio I have no clue.

YAY @ted, so glad you found a solution. Thank you so much for sharing back. This will be helpful for others to troubleshoot as well. I also have had some conflicting rules.
