šŸ† Year-to-Date Comparison - Excel

Joseph,

Your fix worked! Also, i figured out why it worked until November 2023. In November the Categories column went from Z (October) to AA (November) so that’s why the original =char function worked for 10 months then blew up in November!

Cool!

Thanks,

George

I LOVED this for my 2023 budget. Will it work for my 2024 budget?

Yes, expand the hidden columns (J-AE) and change the year in cell K15. I’ll update it now in the shared template so now downloads don’t have to change it.

I changed the value in K15 to 2024, however the formula for the end of the year miscalculates until the current year is 2024. For a quick fix of the end of year date, I added 365 to the K15 value. This resolves as of January 1 and the original formula will work.

I’ve just downloaded this template March 20, 2024. I’ve read all of the posts but I’m still having a problem. If I change K15 from 2024 to 2023, the worksheet fills correctly. If I change it back to 2024 then C10-H10 and below are now blank. What do I need to adjust to get this work for 2024, or years in the future?

Did you follow the instructions?

Well, I think I did?

If you expand the hidden data by clicking on the ā€˜+’ above column AF, is data and correct numbers showing up in columns O-W and Z-AE?

I’m finding the functions in columns Q2-W2 and AA2-AE2 are prefaced with ā€œ_xlfnā€ I’m assuming that’s my problem, but I’m not sure how to fix that.

The Excel workbook contains a function that is not supported in the version of Excel that you are currently running.

This has been great! Having a little snag when I try to update from 2024 to 2025 numbers. When I change K15 to 2025, I experience something similar to an earlier post, but not exactly the same. J16 & J17 both change to 1/1/2025. Under the category heading L22 changes to 2025-01-01 and L23 changes to 2024-12-31. How can I fix this?

I think this is expected behavior. In the shared template, I updated the Categories sheet to 2025, and then in this template I updated K15 to 2025, and data did fill in, despite L23 saying ā€˜2024-12-31’. I believe it was setup so if you’re in the first month of the year, and have ā€˜Completed Months’ chosen in C4, that’s the result. If you change C4 to ā€˜Through Present Month’, L23 does update to the current date. This is all based off the existing behavior of the original Google Sheets version, so I’m not so familiar with the logic behind everything, I just made this one do what the Google Sheets version did…

Got it! Thank you for the explanation. Changing to ā€œthrough present monthā€ fixed it.

When I add the tab to my existing workbook, the Category, Group, Type, Actual, YTD Budget, Favorability columns do not populate with anything. The Income, Expense Actuals, Net Actuals, YTD Net Budget, and Net Favorability amounts do populate look correct. Thanks.

Expand the ā€˜+’ above column AF. Is K15 set to the proper year? Do the ranges in column M look to be valid?

With the directions you provided, I was able to figure it out. I had made some changes to my Transaction worksheet that didn’t comply with your YTD worksheet. I reverted it back and all fields now populate correctly.

Thank you for your help and your fast response.

I just downloaded the excel template version from Tiller Money Feeds and under category it says ā€œFilter yields no resultsā€¦ā€ What do I need to update to do to show the details in the Category, Group, Type, Actual, YTD Budget, & Favorability.

Is there someone in the community that might be able to give me some instructions on how to fix the issue described above? I’m not the most fluent in excel and I’m sure it has to do with some formulas in the sheet that is causing the issue.
