Bug: AutoCat not running on fill

Hi all,

I’m wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. For several days, AutoCat hasn’t been running on my new transactions when Tiller Money Feeds fills my Google sheet. “Auto Run on Fill” is turned on and “Run AutoCat Rules On” is set to Only Uncategorized Transactions. After the transactions are filled, I select “Run AutoCat” and only then do my AutoCat rules kick in.

This isn’t a huge problem, but it’s not the expected or customary functionality.

Yes - I’m seeing the same issue. AutoCat doesn’t run after fill, but runs normally when kicked off manually.

FYI, this morning, I emailed a request that a ticket be created for this issue. @twalane replied, saying “Indeed there appears to be a trend here. Our team is taking a closer look at some of the additional information some of our other customers have now come back to us with. We’ll get back to you with an update on this.”

Thanks for sharing this issue here and keeping the community posted @Rebecca.S ! We’ve had to pass it on to the product team to review further as it appears to need more work. We ask that you continue to manually run AutoCat for now.

The issue is more subtle than I originally thought. It is running Autocat on new transactions, but there is now a bug so it is not processing correctly.

Most of my rules depend on the Description Contains column. This column is what is not working. I have a rule tht runs after all the specific rules for a catagory that only tests the Category Hint Equals column, and that is still working.

Which is odd since if AutoCat is run manually, as we know, every rule works.

That’s good info, @1jerry. Most of my rules use the Description Contains column, too. For multiple months, now, Description Contains has been an exact match to Full Description, so I’ve continued building new rules using Description Contains. I don’t have any issue with running the rules manually, but I may experiment with changing a rule or two to using Full Description to see what happens.

Thanks everyone. We do have this logged as a bug and have asked our dev team to dive into a fix.

My auto cat also didn’t work for description or based on account, so I think it is not just description.

Me too. Glad I’m not crazy.

It puts categories in for everything if I run it manually… but they’re not always the right category. Even the manual run seems to be busted, just in a different and less comprehensive way.

If you’re having issues with AutoCat running that isn’t specifically the bug where it won’t “run on fill” please reach out to support so we can diagnose what may be going on.

So I noticed nobody else has tried a rule with only Category Hint. I have found this is the only rule that seems to work on FILL.

Try this: Add a rule for Category “Eating Out”^ if Category Hint is “Restaurants” at the bottom (the default) of your rules. Make sure no other columns are set. The next day, if you have a Restaurants transaction you should have a category of Eating Out set for that transaction. Clear it and run AutoCat manually to reset it according to your actual rules.

Please reply either way. It will help them debug this.

^) Don’t use quotes for either word and ignore the “^” (I was trying to create a footnote). It’s OK that this is not a valid category for you. It will confirm that something is being run on FILL.

Just noting that I haven’t had any issues with AutoCat auto running after auto-fill, or otherwise. It just works, per usual, for me. So, apparently doesn’t affect everyone.
