I saw the recent post that Tiller can’t do anything with TreasuryDirect after the change to id.me for logins. Is there a way to convert it to an account where the balance is just manually updated monthly? I am not holding my breath for them to cooperate with Yodlee or whoever.
There is not a way to convert it to a manual account, but here is the recommended flow for something close:
For Direct Fills Google Sheets (if not using Direct Fills yet, upgrade or see note below for Excel)
- Visit the Tiller Console Accounts page my.tiller.com/accounts
- Click Add Account
- Choose Import & Track Manually
- Add the details for the account
- Import transactions if you like, but not required if you just care about the balance. if you do import transactions make sure you do not import duplicates (check what’s already in your sheet)
- Click on the sheet name in the left side navigation where you track this account
- Click on Manage Links
- Link the manual version of the account
- Unlink the automated version of the account
- Choose the “Remove some data” option in the Data Clean up pop up that should appear after unlinking the account (Direct Fills Google Sheets only)
- Skip the transactions step
- Keep the “Merge with another account” option selected and click next
- Choose the new manual account in the dropdown option for the account you want to merge into
- Review and confirm changes
This gives you a continuous balance history for the account that corresponds with the manual account’s ID so you don’t end up with duplicated instances of the account in your Balances sheet.
For Sidebar Fills sheet or Excel workbooks
You’ll just want to manually overwrite the account ID for the old entries to use the new manual account’s ID in the Balance History sheet. The Account ID column may be hidden in Balance History. Balance History is a hidden sheet by default.
This is a useful feature. Is there a place where you list these types of feature in your support area?
That should do the job, thank you!
I’m not sure what you mean here. Are you just meaning the steps I’ve written out?
Otherwise recommend adding a feature request to the community feature requests lists here for “converting to manual”
Is there any possibility that Tiller will be able to get transactions in the future after the change? I have some accounts that use authenticator apps and I have to trigger the update myself and enter the code but the transactions are still added to my Tiller sheet. I’m hoping Tiller can support Treasure Direct in that manner
i was referring to the merge account option
Is there a way to change the account type for these manual accounts? The one I just created is showing in my balances as “ungrouped asset” instead of “investment”.
You should be able change the group on the Accounts sheet
Nothing is editable except the account name, date, and balance. The rest is greyed out in the edit window on the accounts listing page.
Oh, I see. We’re talking about different places. If you go to the Accounts sheet inside your spreadsheet you can specify a Group for each account. This Group is used in the Balances sheet.
You’re on the Accounts page in the Tiller console. In the manual accounts, there’s an account Type which is not editable. No idea where it came up with those values in my accounts but they’re not what I would choose. And no idea why they’re not editable. But if you set the Group as I mentioned above that should take care of your concern with the Balances grouping.
That did it, thank you!
@rayfes this is really up to our data provider. We don’t have control over what they decide to prioritize. Authenticator apps are essentially just a way to provide a 2FA code rather than getting it via text, which I think is very different than id.me and maybe is more complicated to implement. ![]()
Thanks @buzzmaster1 - “merge accounts” would definitely a useful feature, please add a feature request ![]()
@mysterytea are you talking about this and not being able to edit the list of valid types there?
Not quite. Once a manual account has been created, there’s no way to change the account type. That’s what seemed to confuse OP (when an Investment account wasn’t grouped with their other investments in the Balances sheet) and confused me when I went looking into it a bit. I had apparently chosen Other for one of my manual accounts when I created it when it really should be Investment.
In the Accounts sheet, column M seems to show this Account Type value. It additionally confused me when I noticed one of my credit card accounts was typed as Other. I’m assuming these are set by the data provider, and for some reason this one is wrong. But no apparent ill effects anywhere.
thank you @heather
I guess I’m just trying to figure out if I need to retire my Treasury Direct account and start a manual one of if I should just wait and see if it’s eventually supported by your data provider. I don’t mind manually updating it and providing the Id.me code the way I do for ETrade if that will be supported
Hi @rayfes I wish I had a more clear answer for you. I just have no sense for whether or not either aggregator will ever support this authentication method and how long that would take. If you want the data sooner than later, I’d just start tracking it manually. you can always go back to automated at some point if it starts working again.
